Why are Stem Cells Important in Ending Human Suffering?

Throughout human history tens of millions of men and women have passed away  from what was thought to be at the time an incurable condition. The Bubonic Plague,a disease of the lymphatic system, claimed approximately 200 million lives over a few of centuries before prescription antibiotics were introduced in modern times. Smallpox is a another disease unique to humans that murdered 60 million Men & Women and basically decimated the Indigenous American society by over 10 million. To this day, smallpox may be the only human transmittable diseases identified to have been fully annihilated

So people ask everyday..why are stem cells important? Stem Cells are thought to be the key to alleviating and treating all of these fatal diseases and conditions. Researchers think that unleashing the secrets of the stem cell could possibly save untold millions and millions of humans who become a victim to various illnesses, injuries and conditions. These secrets will reveal to answer once and for all the question everyone has about why are stem cells important.

Here is a brief listing of illnesses and scenarios currently being helped by way of adult stem cell research and therapies and understand why are stem cells important.

Why are stem cells important for Cerebral Palsy?

Cerebral Palsy CP, a condition where the mind is unable to control the muscle tissues of the entire body, has an affect on as much as 10,000 children each, year according to the center of Disease Control in the US. Duke University US are currently using this treatment with great success to treat kids suffering  from cerebral palsy. They are being injected with their own cord blood stem cells to mend functions and fix impaired brain functions.

why are stem cells important for Parkinson’s?

Parkinson’s Disease, strikes the nervous system of the body, and is brought on by a sluggish, nearly imperceptible loss of cells within the brain that produce a compound required for muscle tissue to operate usually. Lots of people have come to understand the primary sign of Parkinson’s as the disease that creates unrestrainable shaking from the hands, arms or legs. Following Alzheimer’s condition, Parkinson’s Disorder is among the most widespread neurodegenerative disorder, by having an approximated life-time risk of around 1 in 100 persons. It is most common in males and females 50 plus.

Why are stem cells important for Leukemia?

Leukemia is defined by the National Cancer Institute as a “Cancer that starts in blood-forming cells such as the bone marrow and results in large numbers of blood cells to be generated and enter the bloodstream.” Nearly 65,000 new instances are identified every year with over 35,000 dying from the leukemia disease annually in the North America.

why are stem cells important for Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple Sclerosis MS is a ailment that’s been called “the destroyer of younger adults”, typically affecting individuals under 45 years-old, influencing each sufferer a little in a different way. It may cause blurry or otherwise impaired vision, the decline of muscular power, poor equilibrium, “tinglingthroughout body parts urinary incontinence issues, mind lapses plus much more. 2.5 million people, including 400,000 Americans are impacted by MS, 70% of MS patients are female.

Well he is right that as a physiologist and neurologist that he would rarely deal with evolution and natural selection in everyday work. If you are a geneticist, an evolutionary biologist, paleontologist, geologist, many others I think of you deal with this subject everyday. Actually as a cancer biologist you are indirectly linked with evolution because when testing cancer progression or cancer treatments you first study them on mice if they show promise they go to chimpanzees because we are 99% identical to them genetically. Something that evolutionary biologists and geneticists figured out a while ago.

That someone had skinned my dog and put him on a platter on a big bed of barley. He was barely still alive in spite of being skinned and he looked up and wagged with all he had left in him at me. I could NOT go back to sleep for the rest of the night and had to hold him right next to me to make sure that he was safe. I could not shake that image for over a week and I am getting totally upset as I write this even though it was over a year ago…

Stem cell therapy for chronic liver disease???? why are you not considering liver transplantation. It is the best mode of treatment for chronic liver disease. Many patients in Pakistan have got this performed in India, China and UK. Depends on affordibility and availibility of donor…..stem cell therapy is mostly reserved for acute liver failre. I have not coordinated any case of chronic liver disease for stem cell therapy therefore i am not so sure of results.

  27. hirle falomo  February 10, 2013

Can I give examples of ethical abuses by stem cell researchers? Other than the case of Prof. Hwang in South Korea, no.
Exactly. Which makes the entire rest of your argument amount to a “what if” scenario, except that the Hwang case and your “growing babies” strawman are still grossly out of The former was an act of unprofessional data fabrication, and the latter would be an abomination.

no “agreeing to disagree,” only the gross exaggeration that made in order to prop up a scandal of horrendous that would never occur. You do know what a strawman argument is, you?

going to answer a slightly different question, b/c all about the same thing, the "new sins" issue …. could the pontif change the way the college of cardinals announce the finding, or not, of a new pope? I mean, the smoke signals may have been state of the 1000 – 500 years ago, but seem unnecessarily polluting now; they just send us all a text message now?

Texas biotech firm & bitter debate about control of stem cell therapy (+ we get to use headline Cowboy Culture)

  32. petchernej  February 14, 2013

    Why is there a debate?

Because embryonic stem cell researchers need a job, and without a paycheck from the taxpayer, it is highly unlikely find a private investor willing to risk his capital to cash in on a future cancer cure…especially since there is so much promise already in adult stem cell research.

not the American public who is at risk of suffering due to this setback in federal funding.

the embryo-poking Dr. Mengeles out there…at risk of losing their hefty paycheck.

Do the donors have to sign off on this or does the foreskin automatically become of the research people? Are there contractors who deal in foreskins (collection and distribution)? Or how does that work? Can money be made from this skin cutting and growing enterprise?

You should check for radioactive Radon Gas seeping into your house, this can make your hair fall out little by little prematurely. Stress, can also make your hair fall out prematurely. If you are taking some medications, like Lithium, which is actually a metallic poison, like lead, or mercury, you will have hair loss, since these are mutagenic and disrupt the cellular DNA mechanisms by binding to them and preventing the expression of genes, like keratin, (hair) or Melanin/Tyrosinase, (hair color). You may want to use a 100% EFFECTIVE HAIR GROWTH TELOMERASE enzyme to keep your hair follicles stimulated and acting as a YOUNG ACTIVATED hair follicles, since this enzyme RESETS the aging clock of the cells and keeps them [...]

No need to apologize for the infancy of the technology. I understand how new it is. What I am pointing out is how devastating it is for the argument that we should be destroying human embryos. I linked the from National Review to chronicle what many other scientists are saying in response to this breakthrough. Just out of curiosity, Kip, have you been urging the slow down of embryonic stem cell research over the past 8 years? The iPS touted by embryonic stem cell researchers have the tiny problem, too; yet folks have urged the speed up of that research.
